SICKLE CELL DISEASE AND PNEUMONIA

INTRODUCTION
Pneumonia (lung infection) is very common in children and adult with sickle cell disease. Children with sickle cell disease are more exposed to pneumonia and should be given prompt treatment.
SIGNS OF PNEUMONIA
Fever
Frequent coughing
Rapid breathing
Shortness of breath

Tiredness
Chest pain
TREATMENT OF PNEUMONIA
Take the child to the hospital to see the doctor if the above signs show
The child should use the antibiotics the Doctor gives him/her
The child should wear warm clothing, socks and shoes during cold season
